Thermal transfer systems having vanadium oxide antistatic layers

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal dye transfer donor sheet and a thermal dye transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet Or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon, the receptor sheet comprising a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, an image-receiving layer coated on the front side of the substrate, and wherein the vanadium oxide antistatic layer is coated on the front side of the receptor sheet flexible substrate and is positioned between the flexible substrate and the image-receiving layer.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal dye transfer donor sheet and a thermal dye transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon, the receptor sheet comprising a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, an image-receiving layer coated on the front side of the substrate, and wherein the donor sheet comprises a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, a colorant layer coated on the front side, and a vanadium oxide antistatic layer positioned between the flexible substrate and the colorant layer.

A process for providing an image by a thermal transfer process comprising the steps of: (a) providing a thermal transfer donor sheet and a thermal transfer receptor sheet in a facing relationship; and (b) applying heat in an imagewise distributed manner to the donor sheet to cause material on the donor sheet to transfer to the receptor sheet; wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet has a vanadium oxide antistatic layer thereon, wherein the receptor sheet comprises a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, an image-receiving layer coated on the front side of the substrate, and a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated on the flexible substrate, and wherein the antistatic layer is coated on the front side of the flexible substrate and is positioned between the flexible substrate and the image-receiving layer.

A process for providing an image by a thermal transfer process comprising the steps of: (a) providing a thermal transfer donor sheet and a thermal transfer receptor sheet in a facing relationship; and (b) applying heat in an imagewise distributed manner to the donor sheet to cause material on the donor sheet to transfer to the receptor sheet; wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet has a vanadium oxide antistatic layer thereon, wherein the donor sheet comprises a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, a colorant layer coated on the front side of the substrate, and a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated on the flexible substrate, wherein the antistatic layer is coated on the front side of the flexible substrate and is positioned between the flexible substrate and the colorant layer.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal transfer donor sheet and a thermal transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon and in which system the donor sheet comprises a flexible substrate having a frontside and a backside, a colorant layer coated on the frontside, and a vanadium oxide antistatic layer positioned between the flexible substrate and the colorant layer.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal transfer donor sheet and a thermal transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon and in which system the thermal transfer donor sheet comprises a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, a colorant layer coated on the front side, and a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated on the back side, the thermal transfer donor sheet further comprising an antistick layer coated on the back side of the flexible substrate and the vanadium oxide antistatic coating is between the flexible substrate and the antistick layer.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal transfer donor sheet and a thermal transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon and in which system the thermal transfer receptor sheet comprises a flexible substrate having a frontside and a backside, an image-receiving layer coated on the frontside of the substrate, and a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated on the flexible substrate, said vanadium oxide antistatic layer being positioned between the flexible substrate and the image receiving layer.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal transfer donor sheet and a thermal transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon and in which system the vanadium oxide antistatic layer comprises vanadium oxide particles which have a high aspect ratio.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal transfer donor sheet and a thermal transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon and in which system the vanadium oxide antistatic layer comprises vanadium oxide particles which are fibers.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal transfer donor sheet and a thermal transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon and in which system the vanadium oxide antistatic layer is formed from a colloidal dispersion which has a ratio of V.sup.4+ to total vanadium content of at least 0.01:1.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal mass transfer donor sheet and a thermal mass transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon, the receptor sheet comprising a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, an image-receiving layer coated on the front side of the substrate, and wherein the vanadium oxide antistatic layer is coated on the front side of the receptor sheet flexible substrate and is positioned between the flexible substrate and the image-receiving layer.

A thermal transfer system comprising a thermal mass transfer donor sheet and a thermal mass transfer receptor sheet wherein at least one of the donor sheet or the receptor sheet includes a vanadium oxide antistatic layer coated thereon, the receptor sheet comprising a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, an image-receiving layer coated on the front side of the substrate, and wherein the donor sheet comprises a flexible substrate having a front side and a back side, a colorant layer coated on the front side, and a vanadium oxide antistatic layer positioned between flexible substrate and the colorant layer.
